We're working on two major projects this grant round. This first is continuing outreach to the agricultural community as a whole, with special emphasis on Amish farmers in our watershed. We're requesting funds specifically to implement farming best management practices, which include any variety of the following: |

Project List |
We're hoping this project will serve as a follow-up to the outreach we completed this fall, which distributed environmental education curricula and tree seedlings to Amish school children. Many farmers that we've met with through our past projects have expressed interest in implementing these practices on their land and hope to give them the opportunity to do so. For these sorts of projects, we are soliciting funds from EPA, the Altria Corporation, the Lancaster County Community Foundation, and NFWF's Five-Star Restoration program. |
Our other major project is initiating the formation of a Land Trust in Chester County that is equipped to preserve Amish-owned farmlands. Due to the unique nature of the Amish culture, the land preservation organizations currently in place in Chester County are not accessible to Amish farmers. The new Land Trust will be modeled after the Lancaster Farmland Trust, but will deal solely with land in the Chester County portion of our watershed. We're seeking endowment funds from the Claneil Foundation, Merck Family Fund, Surdna Foundation, and Ben & Jerry's Foundation for this endeavor. |
